What you are looking at is what is referred to as an ‘ice dam’. Much like the name suggests, it is an area (or areas) where ice accumulates at the edge of the roof line.

With proper air sealing and ventilation, you can eliminate these ice dams, which can cause costly structural problems if left unresolved.

Brown colored ice indicates that the water/ice is inside the home’s framing, pulling out the dirt and wood stains.
